Redbridge is mostly houses, and domestic cleaning for a Redbridge semi, terrace or flat is charged by the hour: £23 on a weekly booking and £24 on a fortnightly one.

Flats and terraced houses are close to even here, each home to about a third of households, with 27.0% in semis and 7.0% detached; 57.1% own their home. The interwar years built 34.3% of today’s homes, according to the Valuation Office Agency, and only about one home in eight dates from 2000 or later. So a weekly cleaner in Redbridge is more often working through a house than a flat.

Hours, kit and water for a Redbridge house

Four hours a week keeps a three-bedroom semi with children in good order, and 3 hours, the least we book, is usually enough for a two-bedroom flat. A regular cleaner works with your equipment and products, so keep the vacuum, mop and bucket, cloths and sprays together, with a strong limescale remover among them. Two companies supply Redbridge water. Essex and Suffolk Water’s checker puts IG1 1RW in Ilford in its Ilford zone, where 2025 samples averaged 296 mg/l and ran from hard to very hard, while Thames Water places IG2 6UD by Gants Hill station in its Wanstead Park zone, mean 258. Your first visit is charged as a trial, at £26 an hour, and after that the regular rate applies. Settle with the cleaner after each visit or by a monthly invoice. The domestic cleaners page sets out what a visit covers room by room. After a four-week settling-in spell, either side can bring the arrangement to an end with 14 days’ notice.

Parking a cleaner’s car in Redbridge

In a Redbridge permit zone, a works vehicle that stays beyond the time needed to load or unload must show a permit, and the council will not sell one to the tradesperson. A household that wants to cover a cleaner who drives buys visitor scratch cards: each pack holds ten day permits, a household can buy five packs a month at most, and the post can take up to ten working days, so get them in before the first visit. Pay and display bays give one free hour a day, though even that hour must be started as a RingGo session, and after it the charge depends on the location. Every regular visit runs past that free hour. If the cleaner drives and you have no scratch card to hand over, we add the parking to your bill as charged, to a limit of £40. Cleaners who come by bus or train need none of this.

Domestic cleaning in Barkingside

Semis lead in Barkingside: 36.2% of households across Aldborough and Fullwell wards live in one, and 61.2% own their home. A three-bedroom semi suits four hours of weekly domestic cleaning. Shirts and bed linen can join the list too: ironing is booked as additional time and priced when you call. Barkingside has its own piece of history in Dr Barnardo’s Village Home, which the Victoria County History describes as about 60 acres between Cranbrook Road and Horns Road; detached gabled cottages of stock brick stood round a large green, some 26 of them by 1880. Twenty-two of the cottage homes are now listed Grade II, as is the main building of Barkingside Underground station. For a cleaner who drives, the council car parks at Craven Gardens, with 172 spaces, and Court Way off Tanners Lane, with 104, charge by the hour up to three hours and a flat rate beyond, passed on at cost and never more than £40. Along the High Road, selective licensing depends on the ward: Scheme 4 covers Aldborough but leaves out Fullwell.

Domestic cleaning in Gants Hill

Gants Hill was still known as the Beehive in 1899. Private building between the wars carried Ilford northward through Gants Hill and Newbury Park to Barkingside, and the houses show it: across Barkingside and Cranbrook wards, which meet at the Gants Hill roundabout, terraces hold 37.4% of households and semis 30.0%, and 64.1% are owner-occupied. The Commonwealth Estate around Perth Road has streets named for Commonwealth cities, Colombo, Quebec and Auckland among them. A house that has gone a year or two without regular help benefits from one deep clean before weekly domestic cleaning starts, charged per cleaner hour at £28, with £30 on top for the products and equipment the team brings. The postcode by Gants Hill station (IG2 6UD) falls in Thames Water’s Wanstead Park zone, mean 258 mg/l, slightly softer than the Essex and Suffolk Water zones serving much of Ilford. The council car park on Cranbrook Road, next to the library, has 192 spaces with a 7 ft height limit and charges Monday to Saturday from 7.30am until 5pm.

Domestic cleaning in Ilford

Central Ilford has the highest private renting of the areas on this page. Private renters make up 47.0% of households in the four central wards and 56.3% in Ilford Town ward itself, and 13.0% live in flats inside converted houses, a quarter of households in Valentines. Between 1891 and 1911 Ilford’s population went from under 11,000 to over 78,000, housed in long, parallel by-law streets of two-storey terraces with narrow frontages; Cameron Corbett started the Grange estate north of the station in 1894, and Peter Griggs the Cranbrook estate in 1897. Newer blocks around Ilford Hill add hundreds of homes, many for market rent, Horizon and the Britannia Music Site among them. When a tenancy ends, a one-bedroom flat’s end of tenancy clean is £207; that team brings the equipment and products. Every Ilford ward is under selective licensing, Ilford Town and Valentines in Scheme 3 and the other two in Scheme 4. Ilford’s four lettered permit zones, A to D, post their hours on signs at each entry, so check them before a domestic cleaner drives in.

Domestic cleaning in Seven Kings

Cameron Corbett began the Downshall estate in 1898, west of Seven Kings Water, and also pushed for Seven Kings station to be built; most of his houses went up north of the High Road between Aldborough Road, Meads Lane and Barley Lane. Almost 60% of the homes predate 1919. Terraced houses hold 40.3% of households, and 12.8% live in flats in converted houses, with 42.1% renting privately. The oven is a separate job from the weekly visit, and an oven clean for a double oven costs from £110, with racks and trays left to soak in a tub in your own kitchen. For a two-bedroom flat, domestic cleaning every other week at £24 an hour is often enough. Seven Kings has two permit zones, A and B, with hours on the signs at the entry points, and the ward has been in selective licensing Scheme 4 from April 2024.

Domestic cleaning in South Woodford

South Woodford has more flats than the Woodford wards to its north: 45.9% of households in South Woodford and Churchfields wards together, mostly in blocks built as flats, and 48.6% in Churchfields on its own. Semis come next at 29.5%. Weekly domestic cleaning for a smaller flat takes 3 hours, with time for the bathroom scale: the two E18 postcodes Thames Water checked sit in its Woodford zone, which averaged 275 mg/l in 2025. Two conservation areas sit here, South Woodford in Churchfields ward and George Lane in South Woodford ward, and seven of Churchfields’ 14 listed entries belong to St Mary’s Church, its memorial hall and the monuments in its churchyard. Scheme 4 selective licensing takes in both wards, though it stops short of Monkhams and Bridge to the north, which matters to a landlord re-letting a flat here. Sofas fall outside the weekly round; an upholstery clean for a two-seater is £57 and each extra seat £26, on a visit of at least £67.

Domestic cleaning in Wanstead

Wanstead’s two wards are different places to clean. Wanstead Village is 54.1% flats, while Wanstead Park ward, Aldersbrook estate and all, is mostly houses, with 36.8% of households in terraces and 71.5% owner-occupied. The national planning data puts five conservation areas across the two wards, three on the village side (Snaresbrook, Wanstead Grove, Wanstead Village) and two in Wanstead Park ward. At Aldersbrook and Lake House Estate the council adds a design guide and a 2020 Article 4 direction, which bring new windows, doors, roofs and exterior paint under planning control. Inside an Aldersbrook terrace, the stair and landing carpet takes the most foot traffic, and a carpet clean on the stairs is £41 a flight on a visit of at least £67, separate from weekly domestic cleaning. Landlords should note that Wanstead Village is in selective licensing Scheme 4 and Wanstead Park ward is not. Thames Water’s Leytonstone zone serves the sampled E11 postcodes, averaging 267 mg/l in 2025.

Domestic cleaning in Woodford

No Redbridge ward has more detached houses than Monkhams, around Woodford Green, where they are home to 31.9% of households; owner-occupiers there reach 77.1%. Next door, Bridge ward around Woodford Bridge is mostly terraces and semis. A detached four-bedroom house can keep one cleaner busy for five or six hours, so book the longer visit from the start. Five conservation areas sit in the two wards, three in Monkhams and two, Claybury and Woodford Bridge, in Bridge ward. Repton Park, on Manor Road, was once Claybury Hospital, an asylum put up between 1888 and 1890 to G.T. Hine’s designs; it is listed Grade II. Neither ward is in selective licensing, so lets here need only HMO licensing where it applies. Thames Water’s lookup spreads the sampled IG8 postcodes over three supply zones, all hard, with 2025 zone averages from 263 to 275 mg/l, so leave a limescale remover out for your domestic cleaner.

Questions about domestic cleaning in Redbridge

Do I need visitor scratch cards for a cleaner in a Redbridge permit zone?

Only if the cleaner drives and the car stays in a permit zone longer than loading or unloading takes. Trades cannot buy their own permits in Redbridge, so the resident orders visitor scratch cards, ten day permits a pack, allowing up to ten working days for the post. With no card, the cleaner’s parking is charged to you at what it cost, up to £40.

Which Redbridge wards are outside selective licensing?

Selective licensing Scheme 4 covers 15 wards from April 2024 to April 2029, and Scheme 3 covers Ilford Town and Valentines. Of the wards on this page, Monkhams, Bridge, Fullwell and Wanstead Park are in neither scheme. The additional HMO scheme is borough-wide and runs until 17 September 2028.

Who supplies the water in Redbridge?

Essex and Suffolk Water supplies much of the borough; its Ilford zone, which takes in IG1 1RW, averaged 296 mg/l in 2025. Thames Water supplies other parts, and the postcodes it checked at Gants Hill, Wanstead and Woodford sit in zones with 2025 averages from 258 to 275 mg/l. Both suppliers call their water hard, so keep a limescale remover among your products.

Does a regular cleaner cover my Redbridge postcode?

Redbridge reaches across IG1 to IG8 plus parts of E11, E12, E18 and RM6, and not every one of those postcodes has a regular cleaner free. Give the office your postcode on the call and it will say before booking the trial visit.
