Privacy policy

What happens to the details you give us when you ask for a clean.

Domestic Cleaning London keeps the details needed to price and arrange a clean, shares them only with the cleaner given the job and the services that run our bookings, email and payments, and takes requests off this website after 24 months.

This page covers the information you hand over on the phone, by email or through the booking form on this website. The business trades as Domestic Cleaning London. Anything about privacy can go to office@domesticcleaninglondon.org or to the office on 020 3519 6415, and you can ask to see, correct or remove what is on file.

The details a booking needs

A phone call and the booking form gather much the same things. That means your name and phone number, an email address if you give one, the postcode and address of the home, its size and the type of clean you want. On top of that comes whatever you choose to mention so the visit runs smoothly: where to park, how the cleaner gets in, a dog that should stay in the garden, a room to leave alone. When you pay a deposit or an invoice, a record of that payment is kept as well.

The purpose and the legal basis

Almost everything is used to work out a price, book the visit, get a cleaner to your address and take payment. UK GDPR counts that as processing needed for a contract with you, or for steps you asked for before one, such as a quote. A history of bookings and messages is also kept, so that a question or a complaint months later can be answered properly; the legal basis there is our legitimate interest in keeping proper records of the work. Payment records that tax and accounting rules require are held because the law says so.

Who sees your details

The office handles the booking and has the full record. The self-employed cleaner or cleaners given the job receive what they need to turn up and do the work, which is mainly the address, your name, a contact number and the access notes. Our booking system, our email provider and the provider that takes card payments handle the information for us. Beyond that, details go to someone else only where the law requires it.

How long it stays on file

A request sent through this website, with its notes, is taken off the website 24 months after it arrives. Where a request becomes booked work, the record of that work and any payment stays for the period UK law sets for business and tax records, and is deleted after that.

Your rights under UK GDPR

You may ask for a copy of everything on file about you and have anything wrong put right. You may also ask us to delete your details, to limit how we use them, or to stop a use that rests on our legitimate interests. Information you gave us can be sent to you in a common file format so you can take it elsewhere. Some of these rights have limits; a payment record the law makes us keep cannot be deleted early, for instance.

To use any of them, email office@domesticcleaninglondon.org or ring the office and tell us what you would like us to do. Before acting, the office may check that the request really comes from you, so that nobody else can get at your details. In most cases a request costs nothing. You can also write through the contact page if that is easier.

Complaining to the ICO

If you are unhappy with the way your information has been handled, tell us first and we will try to put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office, which regulates data protection in the UK, at ico.org.uk.

This website sets no cookies for tracking visitors or showing adverts. If that changes, this page will be updated to say so.

Bookings and changes to this page

How deposits, payment and cancellations work is set out in the terms and conditions. This policy may be updated when the way we handle information changes, and the version on this page is the current one.

Your price first, then a phone call to arrange the day

Type the postcode, choose the service and the form shows the price. We ring back to set the day and time. A regular cleaner is paid by the hour; one-off work is held with a 50% deposit.
