Weekly domestic cleaning in Greenwich costs £23 an hour; on a fortnightly rota the hourly figure is £24, and no visit is shorter than 3 hours.

Royal Greenwich’s housing shows two ages side by side. Valuation Office counts for 2025 date 26.3% of its 125,060 homes to 2000 or later, more than the 22.1% that predate 1919. Flats held 51.5% of the 114,051 households at the 2021 Census, and only 6.0% of households were in flats in converted or shared houses, so most Greenwich flats are in blocks built as flats. A Georgian house in West Greenwich and a new flat on the peninsula make for two very different cleaning days.

Greenwich homes, old and new, and the hours they need

New flats are quick to clean. A one-bedroom flat in a recent block, with one bathroom, fits the 3-hour minimum, a weekly visit of £69. A Victorian or Georgian terrace over three or four floors takes four or five hours, mostly because of the stairs. A trial first visit is billed at £26 per hour, so the hours can be adjusted before the regular rate starts.

Your cleaner works with what is in the cupboard: the vacuum, the mop and bucket, cloths and whatever products you buy. Add a descaler. Thames Water’s lookup puts postcodes in Plumstead, Woolwich Common and Eltham in its Plumstead and Eltham Park zones, whose 2025 means of 331 and 318 mg/l are over its 300 mg/l very hard line. Its Charlton, Blackheath and Abbey Wood zones come in lower, in the band it simply calls hard. In a very hard zone, taps and shower glass need attention on every visit.

Landlord licensing and moving out in Royal Greenwich

Social landlords house 31.0% of Greenwich households and private landlords 25.5%. The selective scheme for landlords started on 1 October 2022 and runs until 1 October 2027. It covers single-household lets in five pre-2022 wards: the two Plumstead wards (Common and Glyndon), Shooters Hill and the two Woolwich wards, Common and Riverside. Separately, from the start of 2024, a home with three or more sharers from different households using a common kitchen, bathroom or toilet falls under additional HMO licensing wherever it stands in the borough. A replacement selective scheme covering 18 wards went out to consultation from July to October 2026, and the council’s Cabinet is due to decide towards the end of 2026.

Leaving a one-bedroom flat? The move-out clean for it is £207, and the end of tenancy cleaning team comes equipped. A 50% deposit reserves the day, and the outgoing tenant leaves the water, power and heating on.

Parking zones, vouchers and the tradesperson permit in Greenwich

The borough has 30 controlled parking zones, from Abbey Wood and Charlton to Eltham Centre, Plumstead Central and four in Woolwich. Hours differ. Greenwich Town Centre’s zone G runs to 5pm Monday to Saturday from 9am, and an hour later, to 6pm, on Sundays. There residents buy visitor vouchers in packs of five, for a whole day or half a day, up to 200 in a year, and a weekly tradesperson permit is sold for work at a home.

None of this matters to a regular cleaner travelling by bus or train. A team that drives with its equipment may, and any parking it pays for is billed at cost, never more than £40 for the visit.

Domestic cleaning in Charlton

Charlton House, finished in 1612 for Sir Adam Newton after five years’ work, stands in the village, and Charlton Village is one of the borough’s conservation areas. Rectory Field, another conservation area, is one of six Article 4 areas in Royal Greenwich. Terraces hold 32.3% of households across Charlton Village & Riverside and Charlton Hornfair wards, and social renting is high at 38.9%. A two or three-bedroom terrace usually needs 3 to four hours of domestic cleaning a week.

Thames Water’s lookup puts three Charlton Hornfair postcodes, SE7 7JN among them, in its Kidbrooke zone (2025 mean 268 mg/l) and SE7 8AF, in Charlton Village & Riverside, in its Charlton zone (mean 277). Both zones are hard, so leave a limescale spray for the cleaner. The kitchen is where the hours go in a family terrace; a weekly visit keeps the hob and oven door clean, and a full oven clean, from £77 for a single, deals with the inside. Charlton’s Zone C is controlled Monday to Saturday from nine until half past six, and residents there buy all-day or half-day visitor vouchers for a cleaner who drives.

Domestic cleaning in Eltham

Well Hall’s Progress Estate was put up for one purpose: housing munitions workers at the Woolwich Arsenal. The government’s Office of Works put it up in roughly ten months during 1915, a garden suburb of cottage-style houses on two floors. Conservation area status came in 1971, and from 1973 an Article 4 direction has taken away most householders’ freedom to alter them without permission. Eltham Green, Eltham Palace and Well Hall Pleasaunce add three more conservation areas in or beside Eltham. More than half of households in the four Eltham wards own their home (56.3%), and a house on the Progress Estate takes 3 to four hours a week.

Plan for the water. Thames Water’s lookup spreads the Eltham postcodes checked over three zones: SE9 6RU in Eltham Park (2025 mean 318 mg/l), three in Eltham Town & Avery Hill in Bexley and Blackfen (304), both very hard, and two in Eltham Page in Kidbrooke (268). If a bathroom has years of scale on it, a deep clean by two cleaners at £28 each per hour, plus £30, clears it before domestic cleaning settles into a weekly routine. The Eltham Centre zone (EC) is controlled Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5.30pm.

Domestic cleaning in Greenwich

West Greenwich was made a conservation area in March 1968, among the first anywhere in the country. Its appraisal points to Hyde Vale and Crooms Hill for Georgian houses, and at the start of Crooms Hill stands a terrace from 1721. The Ashburnham Triangle went up mainly from 1830 to 1870 on old market gardens. Where a house of that age runs to three or four floors, plan on a four or five-hour visit with a lot of stair work, and the kit is best kept on the middle floor. Ironing fits on the end of such a visit as extra time, which the office prices when you ring; the ironing service page explains how.

New homes are going up as well: New Capital Quay (636 homes) and Creekside East (249) appear on the council’s list of new schemes. Flats account for 71.9% of households across the three Greenwich wards. Water differs here too. Thames Water’s lookup puts SE10 9ER and two other SE10 postcodes in its Charlton zone (2025 mean 277 mg/l), while SE8 3FL on the Creekside side is in its New Cross zone (mean 331, very hard). In East Greenwich the zone EG runs every day from 9am to 6.30pm. Domestic cleaners in SE10 are booked through the office by the hour.

Domestic cleaning in Greenwich Peninsula

The Greenwich Peninsula scheme, run by the GLA’s land company with the developer Knight Dragon on 150 acres of what was Europe’s largest gasworks, is building homes around a central park of 4.9 hectares with a site-wide heat network, and Greenwich Millennium Village follows Ralph Erskine’s masterplan, which won a 1997 competition. Flats house 87.0% of households in Greenwich Peninsula ward and 39.4% rent privately. A new-build flat with one or two bedrooms is a 3-hour weekly job; give the office the fob arrangement, any concierge instructions and the flat number when you book.

If a flat has hosted a party, the morning after is a job for after party cleaning at the one-off rate, with the team bringing its own products. None of Royal Greenwich’s 30 parking zones is named for the peninsula; the neighbouring zone by name is East Greenwich. Thames Water’s lookup puts SE10 0JT and SE7 7QQ in its Charlton zone, averaging 277 mg/l in 2025 from samples between 233 and 337. Domestic cleaning here runs on your own vacuum and products, like everywhere else.

Domestic cleaning in Plumstead

Royal Arsenal workers needed homes in the 1880s, and Plumstead supplied them: small two-up, two-down terraces nearer the river, larger houses up the hill by Plumstead Common, now one of the borough’s 23 conservation areas. Terraces hold 44.6% of households across Plumstead & Glyndon and Plumstead Common wards, the highest share of any area on this page. A two-up, two-down fits the 3-hour minimum; a larger house by the common takes four.

Thames Water’s lookup puts SE18 1PF and SE18 1RE in its Plumstead zone, where 2025 samples ran up to 376 mg/l and averaged 331, and two postcodes by the common in its Eltham Park zone (mean 318), both very hard. Keep a descaler in the cupboard for the cleaner. Both Plumstead wards are inside the current selective licensing scheme, so landlords here need a licence for single-household lets, and tenants leaving can book an end of tenancy clean with the oven added from £31, or £62 for a double. Plumstead Central (PC) is controlled Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5.30pm. Domestic cleaning for a Plumstead terrace usually means one cleaner, 3 hours, once a week.

Domestic cleaning in Thamesmead

The Greater London Council built Thamesmead from the late 1960s on former marshland, mainly as social housing. The 1953 flood shaped the original plans, so homes were given garages at ground level, rooms for living upstairs and overhead walkways between blocks. If your home follows that layout, the vacuum and mop live upstairs with you, and the cleaner needs to know which door and stair to use. The early parts mix modernist town houses with medium-rise and 12-storey system-built concrete blocks; newer homes are more traditional, in brick.

Around 2000 the estate’s district heating was decommissioned, and homes on it got wet radiators from the landlord, which gather dust along the tops and need a wipe each visit. In 2014 Peabody took on Gallions, Tilfen Land and Trust Thamesmead, the estate’s landlords, and social renting covers 36.8% of households in Thamesmead Moorings and West Thamesmead wards. Fortnightly domestic cleaning at £24 an hour works well for a smaller flat. All six postcodes checked here fall in Thames Water’s Abbey Wood zone (mean 269 mg/l), hard but under the very hard line, and no parking zone is named for Thamesmead.

Domestic cleaning in Woolwich

Woolwich is mostly flats, 74.8% of households, and 40.4% rent from a social landlord, the top figure on this page. On the 36 hectares of the old Royal Arsenal munitions site by the river, the council counts over 3,500 new homes built after work began in 2001, and the Woolwich Estates project is replacing Morris Walk, the Connaught and the Maryon Road and Maryon Grove estates with more than 1,500 new homes. The Connaught came down in 2016 and is being rebuilt as Trinity Walk, over 650 homes. If your block has a fob or a concierge, tell the office which when you book.

Woolwich Arsenal’s zone (WA) is controlled seven days a week, half past eight to half past six, Sunday included; residents buy visitor vouchers, and a weekly tradesperson permit is sold for work at a home. Central Woolwich is inside the selective licensing scheme until 1 October 2027. The water changes within Woolwich: Thames Water’s lookup puts three Woolwich Common postcodes in its Plumstead zone (mean 331 mg/l, very hard), SE18 6BG at the Arsenal in its Abbey Wood zone (269) and SE18 5QW in the Dockyard in its Charlton zone (277). Domestic cleaners for a new Woolwich flat usually need 3 hours a week.

Questions about domestic cleaning in Greenwich

Is my Greenwich street covered by selective licensing?

Until 1 October 2027 the scheme applies in Shooters Hill, Woolwich Riverside, Plumstead Glyndon, Woolwich Common and Plumstead Common, using ward lines from before 2022. Streets near the new ward edges should be checked on the council’s map. A wider scheme of 18 wards was consulted on in 2026, with a decision due towards the end of the year.

Which parts of Greenwich have the hardest water?

The hardest Greenwich water is in Thames Water’s very hard zones, over 300 mg/l on its scale. Its lookup puts postcodes in Plumstead and Woolwich Common in its Plumstead zone (2025 mean 331 mg/l), two Creekside postcodes in New Cross (331), SE9 6RU and two postcodes by Plumstead Common in Eltham Park (318) and three in Eltham Town & Avery Hill in Bexley and Blackfen (304). Water that hard leaves scale on taps, screens and kettles. A descaler left with the cleaner keeps it down on a weekly visit, and a deep clean tackles old build-up.

What are the terms for a regular cleaner in Greenwich?

Visit one is the trial, at the £26 hourly rate. The cleaner is paid at each visit, or households that prefer it get a monthly invoice, with no deposit. Four weeks of settling in come first, then fourteen days’ notice on either side ends it. A cancellation that comes inside two working days is billed at half the visit. Regular cleaners are not available in every Greenwich postcode, and the office tells you on the call; full rates are on the prices page.
