In Bromley 18.1% of households have a detached house to themselves, so domestic cleaning in Bromley often means longer visits: £23 an hour each week, never under 3 hours, with your own vacuum and products.
Count bathrooms before you count bedrooms. Bromley’s 2021 Census profile is mostly houses, 29.9% semis, 20.6% terraces and that 18.1% detached, against 31.3% in flats, and more than two-thirds of households own their home. In a bigger house the time goes on second bathrooms, cloakroom toilets and long runs of stairs and landing, so a four-bed with two bathrooms usually needs four to six hours a week.
Forty-seven conservation areas cover parts of Bromley, and five of them, Bromley Town Centre and Shortlands Village among them, got new appraisals on 25 June 2025. Our domestic cleaners work one at a time, weekly or fortnightly, and the office suggests hours once it knows the layout.
Hours and kit for a larger Bromley house
One cleaner for five or six hours is a long day, so the time can be split into two shorter visits a week, as long as each lasts at least 3 hours. Each hour costs £23 on a weekly booking or £24 on a fortnightly one, and the first visit is a trial at £26 an hour. Ironing can be added as extra time and is priced on the call; there is more on the ironing page.
Keep the kit where the cleaner can reach it. In a house over three floors a second vacuum upstairs saves carrying one up and down, and the products, cloths, mop and bucket should sit together in one cupboard. Bromley’s water is Thames Water’s, and the company classes its whole region as hard; its lookup puts two Bromley Town postcodes in a zone that averaged 287 mg/l in 2025, and readings above 300 count as very hard. A limescale remover belongs in that cupboard.
Visitor vouchers and parking for cleaning teams
Regular cleaners usually arrive by train or bus. Parking matters when a team arrives by car with equipment for a one-off, deep or move-out clean, and Bromley’s rules are particular. Its visitor vouchers are paper scratch cards, each good for one day and valid in one zone only, the one the household applied for. They come in books of 15, a household may buy four books a year at most, and several zones (Beckenham Lane, Locksbottom, Petts Wood, Farnborough, Chelsfield and Orpington) sell none.
Where a team has to load on yellow lines, Bromley sells a weekly dispensation per vehicle with one working day’s notice; a suspended bay needs three working days and is charged per bay per day plus a fee. Neither is possible on a red route. Whatever the team pays comes through to you at cost and stops at £40.
Domestic cleaning in Beckenham
Beckenham’s houses come from several building waves. The Cators, who held the manor from 1773, laid out broad roads of big detached villas once the railway came in 1857; Clock House station, opened in 1890, brought rows of small terraces west of Elmers End; Park Langley went up from 1908, and the Kelsey estate was split into housing from 1911. So one street may need five hours a week for a villa with three bathrooms and the next 3 hours for a two-up two-down. In the four Beckenham wards 44.5% of households are in flats.
Parking varies a lot. In the middle of Beckenham, zones BEC and F are enforced every day, 8.30am until 8pm, and households there can buy visitor vouchers, while Beckenham Lane (zone BB) sells neither permits nor vouchers. Near Clock House, Z1 has weekday controls from 8am until 6.30pm, while Z2 to Z4 are enforced just from 10am to noon. Thames Water’s lookup puts three BR3 postcodes checked in its Beckenham zone, which averaged 281 mg/l in 2025, so domestic cleaning there includes a weekly go at the taps and shower glass.
Domestic cleaning in Biggin Hill
Metropolitan Green Belt land divides Biggin Hill from the London suburbs, and at more than 210 metres it is among Greater London’s highest ground. Its post town is Westerham, outside London, the A233 is the one main road through, and the nearest railway station is at Hayes, roughly five miles off. For a regular cleaner who travels by public transport that is a long trip, so the office checks carefully whether domestic cleaning can be covered in TN16 before taking a booking.
A one-off, deep or end of tenancy team may drive in with its equipment, and Bromley’s table of permit zones lists none for Biggin Hill, though yellow lines or other restrictions may still apply. The homes are mostly houses: 86.5% of households owned in 2021 and only 12.5% lived in flats, so a family house is the usual job. Thames Water’s lookup puts the three TN16 postcodes checked in its Westerham and North Downs zones (2025 means of 298 and 290 mg/l), hard enough that a descaler should be on the shopping list. A conservation area protecting the old RAF station was designated in May 1993.
Domestic cleaning in Bromley Town
The railway came to Bromley South in 1858 and to Bromley North twenty years later, and the late Victorian East, West and North Streets are still mostly two storeys high, according to the council’s 2025 appraisal. North of the centre, New Bromley started in the 1860s with small artisan houses, with larger ones along London Road; the Glades shopping centre later took the place of much of the old town-centre housing. A small Victorian house here is a 3-hour weekly clean, and in Bromley Town and Plaistow wards 43.8% of households live in flats, with 26.2% renting privately; when a tenancy ends, end of tenancy cleaning is a fixed price by size.
Parking is controlled at lunchtime. Zones B (Bromley North) and C (Bromley South) have a two-hour control, noon to 2pm, six days a week, and a household in Town Centre zone A cannot buy a permit for A at all, only visitor vouchers for B and C. A team booked for 9am arrives before that window opens, and a household in zone B or C can buy a visitor voucher to cover the middle of the day.
Domestic cleaning in Chislehurst
Bromley designated the Chislehurst conservation area on 2 November 1971. Its 180 acres of commons are privately owned and looked after by a voluntary board of trustees; the 1888 Act that set this up is still in force, and old gravel digging left the two biggest ponds. Camden Place is Grade II* listed. Three in four households here own their home (77.0% in 2021), and a family house is the usual domestic cleaning job, four or five hours a week.
Zone U, in the centre, has controls all day from Monday to Saturday (8.30am to 6.30pm), and a household there can buy visitor vouchers for a deep clean or upholstery cleaning team that drives. On the three ward postcodes checked, the supply is the Petts Wood zone of Thames Water, where 2025 readings ran from 249 to 342 mg/l, averaging 295, so some samples reach the very hard band and the cleaner should have a limescale product to hand.
Domestic cleaning in Orpington
Most of Orpington went up in the 20th century: a new station in 1904, interwar houses lining the High Street on both sides, the Ramsden council estate after 1945, and the Walnuts development, which swept away most of the old High Street buildings. The three wards used here (Chelsfield, Farnborough and Crofton, Orpington) had 13.1% flats and 79.6% owner-occupiers in 2021, so domestic cleaning here is mostly family houses at 3 or four hours a week.
The town has four permit zones and they all differ: H is controlled 10am to noon from Monday to Saturday, I from 8am to 8pm, K from 8.30am to 6.30pm with no visitor vouchers, and M from 11am to 2pm on weekdays, with the Walnuts Estate zone running 9am to 5pm. Bromley lists Orpington among the zones that sell no visitor vouchers, so mention parking near you when you book a team that drives. Thames Water’s lookup puts the five postcodes checked across the three wards in three zones, with 2025 averages between 290 and 295 mg/l.
Domestic cleaning in Penge
Penge had 1,159 residents in 1851 and 13,201 by 1871, growth driven by the Crystal Palace’s move to the area in 1854. Homes up near the Palace were larger than those down the slope, and the post-war estates there followed heavy bomb damage. On Penge High Street the Royal Watermen’s and Lightermen’s almshouses of 1841 were sold off for conversion after their residents left for Hastings in 1973, and they are private homes now. Flats are the majority in Penge and Cator ward (58.6% of households), so domestic cleaning here is often a flat at 3 hours a fortnight.
Thames Water’s lookup puts SE20 8RS and SE20 8RL in its Sydenham Central zone and BR3 1QR in Sydenham East, which averaged 260 and 254 mg/l in 2025, a little softer than central Bromley though still hard, so the cleaner spends less of the visit on scale. Zone PGE has a two-hour control at lunchtime, Monday to Saturday, while the Maple Road zone runs 8.30am to 6.30pm on the same days.
Domestic cleaning in West Wickham
West Wickham was a small village until the 1900s. The station opened in 1882, and the interwar years turned the place into a suburb of mostly 1930s houses, with shops along the High Street and another group near the station. Sir Henry Heydon built Wickham Court, the Grade I manor house, in 1469. Much of the old common was later built over, but the Corporation of London bought and kept a small piece in 1892. Owners make up 84.3% of households, the highest share on this page bar Biggin Hill, and a 1930s semi takes about four hours of domestic cleaning a week.
Water is the thing to watch. One of the three postcodes tested in the ward sits in Thames Water’s West Wickham zone, where the 2025 mean was 312 mg/l, very hard on the company’s scale; the other two are in Keston and Forestdale at 293. Shower heads and kettles scale up quickly. Bromley lists no residents’ permit zone for West Wickham, but yellow lines and pay and display bays may still apply, so check before a deep clean team arrives by car.
Questions about domestic cleaning in Bromley
What does a four-bedroom house in Bromley cost for an end of tenancy clean?
A four-bedroom home is £425, a three-bedroom £339, as a fixed price for the clean. Bedroom carpets add £29 apiece when done with the clean, and an oven adds from £31 (£62 for a double or 90cm range). Equipment and products come with the team, and a 50% deposit secures the date. Bromley runs only the mandatory HMO licence, so a single-household let there needs no council licence.
Is a regular cleaner available in my Bromley postcode?
Not in every one. Bromley stretches from SE20 and BR3 out to BR6 and TN16, and the office confirms on the call whether a regular cleaner can cover your street on the day you want. Regular cleaning has no deposit: the cleaner is paid at the end of each visit, or monthly by invoice.
What notice do I need to give to stop weekly cleaning?
After four weeks of settling in, 14 days’ notice from either side ends the arrangement. Cancel a single visit inside two working days and half of it is charged, so tell the office early about holidays.
