Our domestic cleaning in Croydon is charged by the hour: £23 when one cleaner comes weekly, £24 for fortnightly visits and a 3-hour minimum, making £69 the floor for a weekly visit.
Fewer than four in ten of Croydon’s 152,945 households were flat-dwellers in the 2021 Census (39.7%). About a quarter had a semi, almost as many a terrace and one in eight a detached house. So a cleaner’s week in this borough can run from a flat near East Croydon to a detached house in Purley, and the two need very different visits. Age counts as much as size: Valuation Office figures for 2025 put 28.4% of Croydon homes before 1919 and 23.5% in the twenty years from 1919 to 1939.
Each part of the borough gets its own section below, from the Victorian streets up north to the post-war semis of Selsdon, with what the housing means for hours, keys and parking.
How many hours a Croydon home needs
Book by size and by bathrooms. A one or two-bedroom flat kept tidy between visits fits the 3-hour minimum. Allow four hours for a three-bedroom semi with a family bathroom and a downstairs toilet, and five or more for a detached house with an en suite as well. Visit one is billed at the trial rate of £26 an hour, which gives you and the cleaner a chance to see whether the hours fit; after that the normal hourly rate applies.
Hard water eats bathroom time here. Thames Water’s lookup places CR0 5RU in Addiscombe West and CR8 2HA in Purley in its Croydon East zone, and four 2025 samples there averaged 308 mg/l, over the 300 mg/l line Thames Water treats as very hard. Scale comes back on taps and shower glass between visits, so add a limescale spray to the kit you keep for the cleaner. Nothing arrives in the cleaner’s bag on a regular visit: the hoover, mop, bucket, cloths and sprays all belong to the household. Further south, SES Water’s checker puts a Kenley postcode (CR8 5AE) and a Coulsdon one (CR5 2NE) in zones it rates as medium hardness, and scale builds more slowly there.
Croydon’s 2026 landlord licences and moving out
Private tenants make up 25.8% of Croydon households. On 25 September 2026 Croydon switched on two licensing schemes for their landlords: a selective scheme in 14 wards, and an additional HMO scheme across the borough where three or four sharers come from separate households. Purley, Coulsdon, Kenley and Selsdon wards were left off the selective list.
Move-out cleans are priced per home, by bedroom count: £207 for a one-bed, £339 for a three-bed, with an oven added on the day from £31. The move-out crew brings its own equipment and products, and a 50% deposit fixes the date (the end of tenancy cleaning page has the room list). For tenants staying put in a four-person house share, most of a 3-hour weekly visit goes on the shared kitchen and bathroom, so say on the call which bedrooms, if any, are in.
Parking zones and permits when a cleaner drives in Croydon
There are 20 controlled parking zones in Croydon. Thornton Heath, Norbury, West Thornton, South Norwood and Purley all have zones on the list, and Coulsdon has two; roads outside any zone can still have local limits posted on signs. Residents inside a zone apply on MyRingGo, with proof of address, for a visitor day permit. Paid bays work by RingGo only, and after a session the same car must stay away from that spot for two hours.
Teams for one-off and deep cleans bring their equipment and products, so they are the visitors most likely to drive. If they pay for a bay, we pass on exactly that charge with £40 as the ceiling; a household inside a zone can buy a visitor day permit for them instead.
Domestic cleaning in Addiscombe
Five roads in a grid, Canning, Clyde, Elgin, Havelock and Outram, were set out after 1863 on the sold grounds of the East India Company’s military academy, and that grid is now Addiscombe’s East India Estate conservation area. Two academy buildings still stand, and its gym on Havelock Road has been turned into flats. Flats hold 45.4% of households across the two Addiscombe wards. If yours is in a converted house, the cleaner needs two keys, street door and flat door, or a key safe code, plus a word on whose bins are whose.
At the last Census 40.2% of Addiscombe West households rented from a private landlord, and both Addiscombe wards fall inside the selective licensing scheme. Moving out? A move-out crew does the whole flat for its fixed price and can clean the oven during the same visit, from £31. If you are staying, domestic cleaners can come fortnightly at £24 an hour, once the office has confirmed a regular cleaner covers your street.
Domestic cleaning in Central Croydon
Flats house 85.9% of Fairfield ward’s households, and Valuation Office counts date 56.7% of central Croydon’s roughly 8,830 homes to 2000 or later. Saffron Square’s purple tower rises 43 storeys over five lower podium blocks around a plaza, between the two Croydon stations, with trams and buses running past on Wellesley Road. In a building like that, tell us how a visitor gets in, whether by fob, front desk or key safe, and put the tower, floor and flat number on the booking.
A one-bedroom new-build fits the 3-hour minimum with time to spare for the hob and shower screen. Private renting is the norm, 57.9% of Fairfield households, and tenants who may move within a year can still book regular domestic cleaning: after the four-week settling-in period either side can end it with 14 days’ notice. Homes in the central zone qualify for one extra, an annual visitor permit covering evenings and Sundays only, handy when a cleaner drives in for a Sunday visit.
Domestic cleaning in Coulsdon
Coulsdon is houses, mostly owned: across Coulsdon Town and Old Coulsdon wards just 14.9% of households are in a flat, and 77.6% own their home. Close to a third of the homes (32.4%) date from the 1930s. Barratt Homes has permission, granted in 2014, to build as many as 675 homes on the old Cane Hill hospital site, and four in five are planned with three bedrooms or more. Houses that size outgrow a 3-hour visit. Book four hours for three bedrooms and two bathrooms, five once a utility room and a study join the list.
Coulsdon taps run on SES Water. Its search places CR5 2NE, on Brighton Road, in the Alderstead zone, which averaged 196.8 mg/l in 2025, a level SES rates as medium, so descaling there takes less of the visit than it does up north. For a house that has slipped behind, begin with a deep clean: a pair of cleaners goes after grease, skirting boards and old limescale at £28 per cleaner hour, with £30 on top for their equipment, and the weekly domestic cleaner then holds the house at that standard.
Domestic cleaning in Norbury
Norbury’s population jumped from 475 to 15,538 in the three decades after 1900. The London County Council’s Norbury Cottage Garden Estate of 1901, laid over 30 acres between Northborough Road and Semley Road, was the first cottage estate it built beyond its own boundary, and its Edwardian streets were made the Norbury Estate conservation area in December 2008. A house on the cottage estate takes 3 to four hours a week, and a spare hour at the end is where ironing fits: it goes on the visit as added time, which the office prices on the phone, or it can be booked alone through the ironing service.
Along London Road, offices that replaced big Victorian villas in the late 20th century have often been turned into flats, so a flat there may have a shared entrance and an entry system; explain it when you book. Thames Water’s lookup puts CR7 8BW in its Norbury zone, which averaged 255 mg/l in 2025, hard water but lighter than the Croydon East zone. Both Norbury wards are among the 14 selective licensing wards, and regular domestic cleaners there work from your own hoover and products.
Domestic cleaning in Purley
Purley pulls two ways. In Purley & Woodcote ward a third of households (33.1%) live in detached houses, nearly three times the Croydon figure of 12.2%, yet 38.6% live in flats, and about a quarter of Purley homes went up from 2000 onward. William Webb’s Edwardian garden suburb, with its model village by Woodcote Green, is protected by two conservation areas, the Webb Estate and Upper Woodcote Village. One cleaner may need five or six hours a week in a big detached house there; a flat in one of the newer blocks fits 3.
Hob and oven door get wiped on every regular visit, while the inside of a range cooker needs its own appointment. Ovens are priced per appliance, from £77 for a single to £143 for a 90cm range. Racks and trays go into a soaking tub, and meanwhile the cleaner does the oven’s inside walls, the glass and the door seals by hand, all in your kitchen; hob prices are on the oven cleaning page. Purley counts as an outer parking zone, so a resident’s visitor day permit is cheaper than in the inner zones, and neither Purley ward is a selective licensing ward. Domestic cleaning for a Purley flat or house starts with a call to the office.
Domestic cleaning in Selsdon
Selsdon Park estate farmland covered Selsdon until 1925. The Selsdon Garden Village houses went up from 1926, and Selsdon Wood, 200 acres of it, was saved from building. Most of today’s homes came later: Valuation Office counts put 42.2% in 1945 to 1972 and 27.1% in 1973 to 1999, and barely 1% before 1919. Six in ten households in Selsdon & Addington Village ward live in a semi (60.8%); Selsdon Vale & Forestdale is more mixed, with a third in terraces and a quarter in purpose-built flats.
Fortnightly cleaning at £24 an hour suits a three-bedroom semi, though four hours is realistic once a fortnight of dust and cooking has built up. Plan for the water too. Thames Water’s lookup puts all four Selsdon postcodes checked, CR2 8JR among them, in its West Wickham zone, which averaged 312 mg/l in 2025, very hard, and shower heads, taps and screens scale up fast between fortnightly visits. Leave a descaler out and have the cleaner start in the bathroom. Domestic cleaners here work with your hoover, so check it has a fresh bag before the first visit.
Domestic cleaning in South Norwood
Victorian growth shaped South Norwood: 47.9% of homes in South Norwood and Woodside wards are pre-1919, well above the borough’s 28.4%. In South Norwood ward one household in five (20.2%) has a flat in a converted house, which often means a shared staircase. Keep the hoover in the flat itself, because weekly domestic cleaning runs on the household’s own kit and the cleaner arrives without one.
Thames Water’s lookup puts SE25 4UD in its Croydon Woodside zone, which averaged 251 mg/l in 2025, one of the lower readings in the borough, so bathrooms there need less scrubbing. In carpeted conversions, weekly hoovering looks after the pile; when a tenant leaves, a carpet clean by hot water extraction, using portable machines taken from room to room, costs £36 a bedroom on a visit of at least £67, or £29 a bedroom booked with an end of tenancy clean. Both wards are on the selective licensing list, so landlords here need a licence as well.
Domestic cleaning in Thornton Heath
The railway made Thornton Heath. The station opened in 1862, and in the half-century to 1911 a rural outpost became a suburb of mostly Victorian houses and shops. Over half the homes in the area (53.7%) are older than 1919 and only 8.7% were built after 1999. Terraces account for 39.0% of households, the biggest share of the eight areas here. A two or three-bed terrace with an upstairs bathroom takes 3 to four hours a week, working from the top landing to the hall so dust and fluff finish by the front door.
Thornton Heath and West Thornton each have their own parking zone, and Thornton Heath is priced as an outer zone for visitor permits. The selective licensing scheme covers all three wards in this area, Bensham Manor included. For a spring clean or ahead of a family visit, book a one-off clean alongside the regular domestic cleaning: two cleaners at £26 per cleaner hour plus £30 for equipment, from £186, and the weekly slot carries on as normal.
Questions about domestic cleaning in Croydon
Which Croydon wards need a selective licence?
Fourteen wards came under Croydon’s selective licensing on 25 September 2026. In the areas on this page that means both Addiscombe wards; Fairfield in the centre; both Norbury wards; South Norwood and Woodside; Thornton Heath, Bensham Manor and West Thornton. Waddon, Selhurst, Broad Green and South Croydon complete the list. Purley, Coulsdon, Kenley and Selsdon sit outside it, though the additional HMO scheme reaches shared homes everywhere in the borough. None of this changes how a clean is booked; the licence is for the landlord to hold.
Is a regular cleaner available in Coulsdon or Selsdon?
Not in every Croydon postcode. The south of the borough is spread out, so the office checks a CR5 or CR2 address during the call before taking a booking. When no regular cleaner covers your road, the office tells you and can price a one-off clean, for which a team brings its own equipment.
What does a Croydon household keep ready for the cleaner?
A hoover that works, a mop and bucket, cloths and whichever sprays you like, stored where the cleaner can find them; where the postcodes checked in Addiscombe, Purley and Selsdon came back very hard, add a limescale remover. Settle the entry arrangement, key, fob or key safe, when you book. Settle up with the cleaner in person after each clean, or have the office bill you monthly; there is no deposit on regular bookings.
What if I have to cancel a weekly visit?
Tell the office at least two working days ahead and there is no charge. Cancelling inside that window costs half of that visit. Stopping altogether works on notice: the first four weeks are a settling-in period, and after them 14 days’ notice from either side ends the arrangement. Rates for every service sit on the prices page.
