At 86.6%, the share of Camden households in flats is close to nine in ten, so domestic cleaning in Camden mostly means flats: one cleaner, £23 an hour every week or £24 every other week, with your own vacuum and products.
Camden’s flats come in three kinds, and each changes the visit. Purpose-built blocks hold 56.2% of households, many of them council-owned: Camden’s stock list counts 32,014 council homes, 30,625 of them flats, with 9,831 held by leaseholders. Another 26.2% live in houses split into flats, where a top-floor flat means stairs with the vacuum. The remaining 4.2% are in other converted buildings or over shops and offices. Only about one household in seven has a house to itself.
Tenure divides nearly evenly: private renters 35.6%, social tenants 33.7%, owners 29.7%. Our domestic cleaners work for all three, and the office asks about floors, stairs and bathrooms before it suggests hours.
Hours for a Camden flat, from a studio to a maisonette
A studio or one-bed takes 3 hours, and once a fortnight at £24 an hour is often enough for a household out at work all day. A two-bed with one bathroom suits 3 hours every week at £23. Give a two-floor maisonette or a two-bathroom flat four hours. The opening visit counts as a trial and is charged at £26 an hour, so you can see the cleaner’s work before the regular rate starts.
Where the flat is at the top of a converted house and there is no lift, keep the vacuum, mop and bucket inside it. On a regular visit the cleaner uses the household’s own equipment and products and brings none. Thames Water supplies the borough, and the zones its lookup gives for Camden postcodes averaged between 263 and 276 mg/l in 2025, all in the band it calls hard, so a limescale remover for the taps and shower belongs with the sprays and cloths.
Flat-shares and HMO licences in Camden
Camden licenses shared homes across the whole borough. Its current additional HMO scheme began on 8 December 2025, taking over from the scheme of December 2020, and covers any home with three or more sharers who are not one household. Flat-shares inside purpose-built blocks of three or more flats, which are exempt from the mandatory scheme, still need this licence. The register’s 24 October 2026 update listed 433 mandatory licences and 2,936 additional ones.
In a share, the shared rooms take the time: kitchen first, then bathroom and hall. One sharer should book and pay, on the day or against a monthly invoice, and the group needs to agree who buys products. When the tenancy ends, an end of tenancy clean for a three-bedroom share is £339, and the oven can be added from £31.
Domestic cleaning in Belsize Park
Belsize Park sits in Belsize ward, where converted houses hold more households than purpose-built blocks: in 2021, 46.6% of households there had a flat carved from a house, against 40.2% in blocks built as flats, and half (50.0%) rented privately. Villas and mews houses, Georgian and Victorian, make up the streets. An upper-floor flat in one of those villas means stairs, so the household’s vacuum should live in the flat.
With so many lets, a deep clean between tenants or before a new regular cleaner starts is worth booking. Most Belsize streets fall in zone CA-B, controlled on weekdays from 9am until 6.30pm and on Saturdays from 9.30am to 1.30pm, so the zone’s controls have ended by Saturday afternoon, though the signs on the street still decide. Thames Water’s lookup puts NW3 4HU and NW3 4TU in its Hampstead West zone, which averaged 269 mg/l in 2025, hard enough that domestic cleaning in those streets includes regular descaling of taps and shower glass.
Domestic cleaning in Bloomsbury
Almost everyone in Bloomsbury ward lives in a flat (96.4% of households in 2021), mostly in purpose-built blocks (77.6%), and 42.5% rent privately. Take the Brunswick Centre: Grade II listed, put up between 1967 and 1972, with 560 flats alongside shops. Camden took the homes on lease as council housing and now counts 377 council homes there. For a one- or two-bed flat, domestic cleaning is usually 3 hours a week or fortnight.
Getting there is by Tube, bus or on foot. Bloomsbury lies south of Euston Road, so it is inside the Congestion Charge zone, and zone CA-E covers most of the ward, with parking controls from 8.30am to 6.30pm every day except Sunday. Conservation areas: Bloomsbury (1984), with Fitzroy Square (1985) and Charlotte Street (1999) taking in the Fitzrovia streets. If a tenancy is ending, carpets done during the move-out clean cost £29 per bedroom.
Domestic cleaning in Camden Town
Parking in most Camden Town ward streets is controlled until 11pm every day. Camden’s zone data puts them in CA-F(n), enforced from 8.30am to 11pm on weekdays and from 9.30am to 11pm at weekends, so a team that drives meets the controls whichever day it comes. A paid bay, a visitor permit bought by the household or a trade permit is added at cost, never more than £40. East of there, the Camden Square streets are in CA-N, which has weekday daytime controls only (8.30am to 6.30pm), so a Saturday deep clean there falls outside the zone’s hours.
In the two wards 85.2% of households live in flats, including 3.6% in flats inside commercial buildings such as over shops, and social renting (39.9%) is ahead of private renting (35.5%). Maiden Lane is the largest council estate, with 752 homes; Clarence Way has 250 and Agar Grove 241. A flat above a shop can have its own street door, so tell the office how to find it; domestic cleaning there is 3 hours with the kitchen first. Three conservation areas overlap the area: Camden Square, Regent’s Canal and Camden Town, designated between 1980 and 1986.
Domestic cleaning in Hampstead
Houses are commoner in Hampstead than elsewhere in Camden. Across Frognal and Hampstead Town wards, terraces housed 10.5% of households in 2021, semis 10.6% and detached homes 5.7%; Camden-wide the figures were 8.1%, 3.6% and 1.7%. Half of Hampstead households own. A whole house with three bathrooms can take six hours of domestic cleaning a week, split over two visits if you prefer, and ironing can be added as extra time.
The main Hampstead zone, CA-H(b), which also covers Vale of Heath, is enforced 9am to 8pm Monday to Saturday, and CA-H(d) around Church Row until 10pm. In the CA-H zone a trade permit also allows parking on double yellow lines up to 8pm as well as in resident bays, and parking for a team bringing equipment is added at cost, never more than £40. In CA-S(a), covering parts of Frognal and Redington, the control lasts only two hours, 12.30pm to 2.30pm on weekdays. The Hampstead conservation area dates from February 1968, and an Article 4 direction covering it, apart from Frognal Way, has a start date of 9 June 2026. Thames Water’s lookup puts NW3 6AU and NW3 2RN in its Muswell Hill and Hampstead Heath zone, which had a 2025 mean of 263 mg/l.
Domestic cleaning in Holborn
Of the households in Holborn and Covent Garden ward, 95.8% are in flats and 74.9% in blocks built as flats, and nearly half (45.7%) are social tenants. Between Leather Lane, Gray’s Inn Road and Clerkenwell Road stands the Bourne Estate, a London County Council estate of 1905 to 1909; most of its blocks are Grade II listed, and Camden counts 546 council homes there. Another 6.3% of the ward’s households live in flats inside commercial buildings.
For domestic cleaning that usually means a flat with a shared entrance and stairs or a lift, with 3 hours a fortnight right for a one-bed. Holborn sits south of Euston Road, inside the Congestion Charge zone, so a regular cleaner comes by Tube or bus. Conservation areas include Hatton Garden (1968), Seven Dials (1971), Kingsway (1981) and the southern end of Bloomsbury. Thames Water’s lookup puts WC1N 2NT and WC1X 0BU in its Bloomsbury zone, which averaged 270 mg/l in 2025, so keep a limescale remover for the taps.
Domestic cleaning in Kentish Town
Most Kentish Town homes are Victorian or older. On the Valuation Office’s 2025 counts, best-fitted to the two wards, 65.0% predate 1919 (62.6% predate 1900), and only 13.3% are from this century. Converted-house flats are nearly as common as purpose-built ones (36.0% of households against 38.5% in 2021), and 13.6% live in a terraced house. A whole Victorian terraced house is four or five hours of domestic cleaning a week; a flat cut out of one, 3.
Most streets are in zone CA-M (East Kentish Town) or CA-L (West Kentish Town), enforced on weekdays only, 8.30am to 6.30pm. St Leonards Square is the exception, with weekend control from 9.30am to 5.30pm as well. Away from that square, a Saturday visit falls outside the zone hours. If you are clearing out before a move, Regis Road (NW5 3EW) has Camden’s reuse and recycling centre, open 9am to 4pm every day bar Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day; old sofas, mattresses, rugs and carpets are accepted, and a van or trailer needs a booked slot.
Domestic cleaning in King’s Cross
Two housing stocks share the King’s Cross ward. The King’s Cross Central scheme, north of the stations, counts 1,700 homes in 50 buildings with an average height of 8.9 storeys, some of them flats built inside three restored Grade II gasholder frames. On the Gray’s Inn Road side, south of Euston Road, the council’s conservation area statement notes terraces from the early 1800s, three storeys over a basement, many since topped with mansard roofs, and next to them the Birkenhead Street Estate, seven-storey blocks from the 1950s. A basement flat or a mansard top floor means stairs; a new-build flat cleans quickly in 3 hours.
Council estates nearby include Birkenhead Street (99 homes), Sidmouth Street (104), Regent Square (141) and the two Cromer Street estates (204 between them). In zone CA-D the weekday controls last from 8.30am to 6.30pm, and on Saturdays they stop at 1.30pm. On Valuation Office counts 39.2% of the ward’s homes are this century’s and 28.4% date from before 1919, so domestic cleaning here ranges from new-build flats to early 19th-century terraces.
Domestic cleaning in West Hampstead
Private renting is the largest tenure in West Hampstead and Fortune Green wards: 44.9% of households in 2021, well above Camden’s 35.6%. Converted or shared houses hold 38.2% of households, so many visits are to a flat in a house, up a shared stair, where 3 hours a week covers a two-bed. When a lease ends, a move-out clean for that two-bed is £243.
Camden’s stock list records 265 council homes on the Lymington Road Estate, 229 at West End Sidings, 108 at Templar House and 101 at Westcroft Close. Zones differ street by street: CA-P(b) West End has controls Monday to Saturday, 8.30am to 6.30pm; the Fortune Green and Kilburn zones (CA-P(a), CA-Q) are weekday-only; CA-P(c) is enforced for two hours, 10am to noon, on weekdays. Thames Water’s lookup puts NW6 1DS in its Hampstead West zone and NW6 2LG in Hampstead South, which averaged 269 and 271 mg/l in 2025, so domestic cleaning on those streets includes descaling. At the top of West End Lane, the green and its surroundings became a conservation area in 1993.
Questions about domestic cleaning in Camden
How do visitor permits work for a cleaning team in Camden?
Camden visitor permits are electronic, so there is no paper for the windscreen. A short stay is bought in quarter-hour blocks, up to four hours; all-day permits cover longer visits but are not sold in every zone. Council estates and private land inside a zone have their own rules, so the street signs decide. Regular cleaners usually come by Tube or bus; a one-off or deep clean team’s parking is charged at cost, never more than £40.
Is a regular cleaner available in my Camden postcode?
Not in every one. Camden postcodes run from N6, N19 and NW2 down to WC1, WC2, W1T and parts of EC1, and the office will say on the phone if a regular cleaner has room for your street, day and time. Teams for one-off, deep and move-out cleans cover the whole borough.
Can I stop regular cleaning if it does not work out?
Yes. The first visit is a trial at £26 an hour and the first four weeks are a settling-in period; after that, 14 days’ notice from you or from us ends it. Cancel a single visit inside two working days and half of it is still charged. There is no deposit for regular cleaning: the cleaner is paid on the day, or the office sends a monthly invoice.
