Enfield homes can have a domestic cleaner every week at £23 an hour, or every second week at £24; the very first visit is a trial charged at £26 an hour.

The 1930s built a large part of Enfield. Valuation Office counts for 2025 place 28.3% of the borough’s 128,340 homes in that one decade, and 35.2% between 1919 and 1939 taken together, against 11.3% put up from 2000 on. Census 2021 found more Enfield households in terraces (28.9%) than in semis (24.8%), and 38.7% in flats. So a regular visit here is more often a house with stairs than a flat, and the hours follow from that.

Hours and kit for an Enfield house

A two-bedroom flat fits the 3-hour minimum, which makes a weekly visit £69. A three-bedroom inter-war semi, one bathroom plus a toilet downstairs, takes about four hours, and a bigger detached house five. A regular cleaner relies on your own kit, so have a vacuum that picks up properly, a mop and bucket, a stack of cloths and your choice of products ready in one cupboard. Money goes straight to the cleaner after each visit, or onto one monthly invoice from the office; there is no deposit for regular work.

Most of the borough gets Thames Water. Its lookup places Ponders End (EN3 4EP) in its Enfield Town zone, where four 2025 samples ran from 241 to 294 mg/l. Hadley Wood is the exception: Affinity Water’s checker gives EN4 0LT 271 mg/l, which it classes as hard. Keep a limescale spray with the other products and the bathroom stays ahead of it week to week.

Enfield’s licensing schemes and the end of a tenancy

29.3% of Enfield households rent privately. Enfield’s additional HMO scheme has run borough-wide from 1 September 2025, catching shared homes outside mandatory licensing that house three or more people drawn from two or more households. A year later, on 1 September 2026, selective licensing arrived under two designations covering 17 wards, so most lets to a single household in those wards now need a licence of their own.

A tenancy ending is when an end of tenancy clean comes in. It is fixed by bedrooms, £339 for a three-bed house, and the team arrives with all its own equipment and products once a 50% deposit has secured the date. Landlords between tenants book the same clean, and it can include the oven: from £31 if single, £62 if double.

Visitor vouchers for a cleaner who drives in Enfield

Enfield sells its visitor vouchers to residents of a controlled zone in books of ten. Zones restricted for only part of the day use one kind; all-day zones use half-day vouchers. When a zone’s restricted hours are over, the bays are open to anyone. Hours differ from zone to zone, so read the signs on your street before the first booking.

Most of this matters only if the cleaner drives. A weekly cleaner arriving by bus or on foot leaves the bays alone, while a deep clean team bringing equipment may come by car. Parking the team pays for goes on the bill at cost, capped at £40.

Domestic cleaning in Bush Hill Park

In 1875 a 373-acre estate here passed to the North London Estates Company. Building began after the station opened in 1880, big villas first, then smaller semis. After 1960 some of the larger houses were demolished and replaced with flats, a trend the 1987 conservation area designation brought to an end, with Private Road added in 1994. The result is a mix: a villa can take five to six hours of domestic cleaning a week, a flat in one of the later blocks 3.

Owners dominate. At the 2021 Census Bush Hill Park ward had Enfield’s highest home ownership (77.2%) and its lowest private renting (18.4%), which suits a regular cleaner working for the same household year after year. A large kitchen with a double oven benefits from an oven clean now and then, from £110 for a double; the cleaner works on it by hand where it stands while the racks soak. The ward sits outside the selective licensing scheme, though Southbury next door is in it. Thames Water’s lookup puts the station (EN1 1BA) in its Bush Hill zone, with a 2025 average of 260 mg/l.

Domestic cleaning in Edmonton

Edmonton’s five wards, Edmonton Green, Lower Edmonton, Upper Edmonton, Haselbury and Jubilee, all fall in the first selective licensing designation, and the tenure figures show why it matters here: 34.0% of households rent privately and 26.5% from a social landlord. When one of those private tenancies ends, an end of tenancy clean fits before the next household’s domestic cleaning starts. Between 1965 and 1974 the old heart of Lower Edmonton was cleared, and flats, car parks and a shopping centre took its place; a partial redevelopment, whose first phase came in 2007, then added homes in buildings six to ten storeys high, so if your block has a fob, tell the office along with the flat number.

Parking has a twist. Two zones near the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Sunnyside and South Edmonton, work only on event days, from midday until nine in the evening, and each resident may buy no more than two ten-permit visitor books in a year. Check the fixture list before booking a team that drives on an event day. Thames Water’s lookup puts Upper Edmonton (N18 2XF) in its Edmonton zone, where 2025 samples averaged 260 mg/l. Church Street, with medieval All Saints Church, has been a conservation area from 1970.

Domestic cleaning in Enfield Town

Gentleman’s Row was where the Enfield Town conservation area began in October 1968, and the area now takes in the ‘New Town’ grid of Essex, Sydney, Raleigh and Cecil Roads, laid out in 1853 though not fully built until late in the century. Houses on those roads are Victorian, older than the borough’s 1930s streets. Allow four hours a visit for a three-bedroom terrace there, and expect the stairs and the kitchen to take a good share of it.

Town ward is mostly owner-occupied, 65.0% at the last Census, and a fortnightly visit at £24 an hour suits plenty of these homes. Two things to know. Town is one of the four wards in the second selective licensing designation, so letting to a family, or to one or two tenants, needs a licence there. And Thames Water’s lookup puts the market place area (EN2 6LU) in its Bush Hill zone, where four 2025 samples ran from 253 to 268 mg/l, so leave a descaler out for the cleaner. Domestic cleaning here works best with that bottle under the sink.

Domestic cleaning in Palmers Green

Palmers Green ward topped Enfield’s 25 wards at the 2021 Census for households in converted or shared houses, 28.3%, and flats overall reach 56.4%. Its first big estates followed the station’s opening on Aldermans Hill in 1871: the Old Park estate (Aldermans Hill to Fox Lane) and the Hazelwood Park estate (Hedge Lane to Hazelwood Lane). A converted flat often means a shared front door, so leave the cleaner both keys or a key safe code, and say whether the hall and stairs are yours to have cleaned.

Renting is high, 37.9% privately, and Palmers Green ward entered the second selective licensing designation in September 2026. When a carpeted flat changes hands, carpet cleaning with portable hot water extraction machines is priced per room, £43 for the living room and £36 per bedroom, on a visit of at least £67. The Triangle (N13 4YD) is in Thames Water’s Southgate zone, the highest Thames Water average on this page at 270 mg/l in 2025. The Lakes Estate became a conservation area in 2010. Domestic cleaners in N13 come weekly or fortnightly.

Domestic cleaning in Southgate

The Piccadilly line reached Southgate in 1932 to 1933, and that is when it grew. Its old village centre was rebuilt around Charles Holden’s circular booking hall and the curve of Station Parade, and further 1930s parades went up with shops below and offices and flats over them. In Southgate and Arnos Grove wards, 40.7% of households live in flats, and a flat over a parade can have its own door, so tell the office how to find it before the first visit. Holden’s station was upgraded to Grade II* in 2009.

Home ownership runs at 63.8%. If the household wants help with laundry alongside its domestic cleaning, ironing can be added to a visit as extra time, priced by the office when you call, or booked as its own job through the ironing service. Southgate ward joined the selective licensing scheme in September 2026, while Arnos Grove ward, round Southgate Green, stayed out. At Southgate Circus (N14 5BH) the water sits in Thames Water’s Oakwood zone, with 2025 samples between 259 and 271 mg/l.

Domestic cleaning in Winchmore Hill

Old Winchmore Hill keeps wooden clapboard cottages, painted brick houses on The Green from 1750 (Woodside House and Rowantree House) and terraced houses on Hoppers Road from around 1770. Two conservation areas sit in the ward, Winchmore Hill Green (1968) and Vicars Moor Lane (1970). Older houses collect dust in places a weekly visit can miss, and before a regular cleaner starts, a deep clean by two cleaners, from £198, sets a baseline the weekly visits can keep.

The ward is mostly owner-occupied, 69.2% at the 2021 Census, with social renting at only 4.8%. Winchmore Hill is outside Enfield’s 17 selective licensing wards, so a single-household let needs no selective licence, though the borough-wide HMO scheme covers shared homes. The green (N21 3NQ) lies in Thames Water’s Enfield West zone, where five 2025 samples averaged 262 mg/l. Regular domestic cleaning in N21 depends on a cleaner covering your road, and the office checks that on the call.

Questions about domestic cleaning in Enfield

Which Enfield wards are in the selective licensing scheme?

From 1 September 2026, 17 wards. The second designation is the smaller one, Town, Southgate, Palmers Green and New Southgate. The first covers thirteen more, Edmonton’s five wards among them along with Ponders End, Enfield Lock, Bowes and Southbury. Bush Hill Park, Winchmore Hill and Arnos Grove are outside both, but additional HMO licensing reaches any Enfield home where three or more people from two or more households live together, unless mandatory licensing covers it.

Is there a regular cleaner for every Enfield postcode?

Not every Enfield postcode has a regular cleaner nearby, and the office looks up yours during the call. Where one is free, the opening four weeks are a settling-in period, and after them fourteen days’ notice from either end stops the arrangement. Cancelling a single visit with under two working days’ warning means paying half of it.

What happens to old furniture before a move-out clean in Enfield?

The council will take away as many as six bulky items that are not electrical, free on the collection day set for your postcode, or for a fee on a date you pick. Sofas and beds count, and so do carpets and rugs once they are tied in bundles; put everything out on the front boundary before 5.30am. Clearing those first leaves the rooms open for the move-out team, whose prices are on the prices page.
