Harrow households pay £23 an hour for domestic cleaning every week and £24 every other week. A visit lasts at least 3 hours, which puts a weekly cleaner from £69.

Harrow is mostly between-the-wars housing. By the count in the council’s Local Plan, nearly two in every three homes here went up in that period, when Metroland estates of semis and short terraces covered the farmland, and the semi is still the commonest home at the 2021 Census. So a regular cleaner in Harrow is more often in a house than a flat, carrying the household’s vacuum up and down the stairs every visit.

About a third of the borough lives in flats, chiefly purpose-built blocks, and 29.6% of households rent from a private landlord. A flat one tenant is leaving needs an end of tenancy clean, and the next tenant may want a cleaner every week or two from the first month.

How long a regular clean takes in a Harrow house

The 3-hour minimum covers a two-bedroom flat or a small terraced house with one bathroom. A three-bedroom semi with a downstairs toilet usually needs four hours a week, and a detached house with two bathrooms and a utility room needs five or more. Your first visit is charged as a trial, at £26 an hour, so you and the cleaner can see what fits; after that a weekly or fortnightly cleaner costs £23 or £24 an hour. You keep the products and equipment in the house: a vacuum that copes with stairs, mop and bucket, cloths, a bathroom spray, a kitchen degreaser and polish for wood. Pay the cleaner at the end of each visit or ask the office for one invoice a month; regular cleaning needs no deposit. Give it four weeks to settle in, and from then on either of us can stop with 14 days’ notice.

Very hard water and limescale in Harrow

Harrow’s water comes from Affinity Water. Type the postcode of North Harrow station into the company’s checker and it returns 363 mg/l, a figure Affinity calls very hard. You see it as white crust on the taps, the shower screen, the kettle and the edge of the bath. Not every reading is that high: HA2 9TS in Rayners Lane and HA2 8HR on Northolt Road come back at 267 mg/l, which Affinity calls hard. A weekly cleaner can hold that back with a limescale remover from your cupboard, helped by a squeegee down the shower glass between visits. Scale left to build for a long time is a bigger job. Book a deep clean first, at £28 per cleaner per hour and from £198 with the team’s own kit, and the weekly visits start from a bathroom they can keep on top of.

Parking for a cleaner in Harrow’s controlled zones

A cleaner who arrives by bus or on foot has no parking to sort out. For one who drives into a Harrow controlled zone, residents can buy visitor permits, virtual ones online or a book of scratch-cards; the council’s own page names a decorator or a repair person as the kind of visitor they suit. Some homes cannot have them. Harrow’s term is Permit Restricted Property, mostly a flat in a newer development built under a planning condition that keeps its residents off the permit list, and anyone visiting has to find a paid or unrestricted space nearby. Each zone’s hours are printed on the signs where you drive in. Bank holidays get no exemption, and the council’s estate car parks run their own zones, numbered H1 to H5. Paid parking goes on the bill at what it actually cost, capped at £40.

Domestic cleaning in Harrow Weald

The ancient woods of Harrow Weald Common mark the top edge of Harrow Weald, a suburb laid out in the 1930s. A household that walks there brings some of the Common home on its boots, so the hall floor, the bottom stair and the mat by the back door are where a weekly visit starts. West Drive is one conservation area in the ward; Brookshill Drive with the Grimsdyke Estate is the other. If your house keeps old floors or a period fireplace, show the cleaner on the trial visit which product goes on which. Affinity Water gives HA3 6BG a reading of 352 mg/l and files it as very hard, so a descaler belongs in the cupboard beside the bathroom spray. Domestic cleaning for a family semi here is usually one weekly visit of 3 or four hours. If nobody has touched the oven since you moved in, book an oven clean, from £77 for a single oven, before the regular visits begin, and the cleaner then wipes a clean door each week.

Domestic cleaning in Harrow on the Hill

Six in ten households on the Hill live in a flat (60.3% at the last Census), largely in purpose-built blocks, and more than a third rent privately. That mix brings two kinds of booking. A tenant on the way out books an end of tenancy clean, charged by the size of the flat (£207 with one bedroom, £243 with two) and done by a team that brings everything. Owners and tenants who are staying put book a cleaner every week or two. The old village on the hilltop grew around St Mary’s, an 11th-century church, and no fewer than eight of Harrow’s conservation areas fall in this single ward, Harrow Park, Sudbury Hill and the Village among them. If your house there keeps original features, mention them on the phone and the cleaner hears about them before the first visit. Affinity Water’s checker puts HA1 3HN by St Mary’s in its Harrow South zone, where three 2025 samples averaged 363 mg/l, so put a descaler on the shopping list for domestic cleaning on the Hill.

Domestic cleaning in Pinner

Pinner grew fast between 1923 and 1939. The Metropolitan Railway encouraged garden estates round the old village, and one of them, Pinnerwood, is a conservation area today. Across Pinner and Pinner South wards 71.8% of households own their home, and a settled family house is where a long weekly arrangement works best. The office tries to send the same cleaner each week, so that person learns where the spare bin bags and the good glasses live. Shirts and bedding can go on the visit too: ironing is booked as extra time, and the office prices it when you call. Some of Pinner’s homes are 1930s Art Deco, the grandest being Elm Park Court, listed at Grade II, on the corner of Elm Park Road and West End Lane. On the High Street, HA5 5LU, the checker shows 361 mg/l, so chrome taps and glass shower doors want a limescale product every week. For domestic cleaning in the conservation areas, East End Farm, Moss Lane and Waxwell Lane among them, mention stairs and old features on the call.

Domestic cleaning in Rayners Lane

Nearly half the households in Rayners Lane ward (49.0%) lived in a terraced house in 2021, more than anywhere else in Harrow, and just 16.1% in flats. Rayners Lane was built up in the 1930s as Harrow Garden Village, laid out by E.S. Reid on garden suburb lines with cheap, mostly terraced houses. A small terrace with one bathroom fits inside the 3-hour minimum, so a fortnightly visit at £24 an hour often suits it, with the household wiping the kitchen down in the week between. Affinity Water’s checker gives HA2 9TS on Alexandra Avenue 267 mg/l: hard, a band below the very hard readings elsewhere in Harrow. One boundary point, since Harrow redrew its wards in 2020: the Garden Village roads north of the station now sit in Pinner South ward. For domestic cleaning the office only needs your postcode.

Domestic cleaning in South Harrow

Fields covered South Harrow until the late 1800s, and housing had taken the last of them by the mid-1900s. The shops line Northolt Road, and the station stands at its northern end, useful for a cleaner who comes by train. Two wards share the area, and landlords in each live under different rules. In Roxeth every private let has needed a selective licence from 2 May 2026; Roxbourne sits outside that scheme, and nearly a third of its households (31.3%) rent from a council or other social landlord, more than in any other Harrow ward. When a rented home changes hands, the end of tenancy clean costs a fixed £156 for a studio, more for each extra bedroom. Tenants moving in who want a fresh start can book a one-off clean first and domestic cleaning every week or two after that. HA2 8HR on Northolt Road reads 267 mg/l on Affinity’s checker, hard rather than very hard.

Domestic cleaning in Stanmore

Flats hold 40.8% of households across Stanmore and Canons wards, and the Canons Park Estate conservation area is in Canons ward, where the Duke of Chandos’s 7-acre lake still lies inside the Canons Drive residential area. A detached house with three bathrooms usually needs five or six hours of domestic cleaning a week; split it into two visits if the kitchen works hard. The RAF left Stanmore Park in 1997 and houses now stand on the site. Moving in there, or into an older house in Kerry Avenue, Little Common, Old Church Lane or Stanmore Hill conservation areas, start with a deep clean: a team of two or more brings the kit, charges £28 per cleaner per hour and takes a 50% deposit to hold the date. After that a regular cleaner keeps the house going on your own products. Stanmore station’s postcode reads 352 mg/l, so leave a descaler out for the shower and the taps.

Domestic cleaning in Wealdstone

Much of central Wealdstone is Victorian and Edwardian terraced streets, with newer flats along the High Street and on George Gange Way, a bypass opened in 1996. It rents more than Harrow as a whole: 37.4% of households in the two Wealdstone wards had a private landlord in 2021, against 29.6%, and one in ten lived in a flat made out of a house. In a shared house the kitchen and the bathroom eat most of a 3-hour visit, so ask the cleaner to give those two rooms the first two hours and vacuum the shared hall and stairs last. Landlords here have needed a selective licence for every private let since 1 September 2026. Parking moved too. Zone C, round the Wealdstone Royal Estate, went from one hour on weekdays to 8am until 6.30pm, Monday through Saturday, on 5 January 2026, an experimental order the council tied to about 3,100 new homes at the old Civic Centre and at Eastman Village. A cleaner who drives there during those hours can use a visitor permit the household buys. Domestic cleaning here also means very hard water: Affinity’s checker gives HA3 7LX on the High Street 361 mg/l.

Questions about domestic cleaning in Harrow

Can a cleaner get a visitor permit for a new-build flat in Harrow?

Not if Harrow lists the flat as a Permit Restricted Property. Those are mostly homes in newer blocks whose planning permission bars both resident and visitor permits, so a cleaner who drives there has to pay for a bay or find an unrestricted street. Whatever the cleaner pays to park appears on your bill at that cost, no more than £40. A cleaner who comes by bus or on foot avoids the question.

I let a house in Roxeth or Wealdstone. Can you clean it between tenants?

Yes. Harrow now licenses every private let in six wards: Roxeth and Edgware came first, on 2 May 2026, then Marlborough and Greenhill on 6 July and the two Wealdstone wards on 1 September. The clean between tenancies is the same in each, an end of tenancy clean at a fixed price for the size of the house, £156 for a studio and £425 for four bedrooms, with the team bringing its own equipment and products. Half the price is paid up front as a deposit to hold the day. Leave the heating, electricity and water connected for the team.

How do I get rid of an old carpet before the cleaners come?

Harrow lets every household have one bulky waste pick-up a year at no charge, four items at most, and a carpet has to be rolled to five feet or shorter. Book it for the days before the clean so the floor and skirting boards are clear. Carpets you are keeping can be done the same week through carpet cleaning at £36 a bedroom, on a visit of at least £67.

Is a regular cleaner available in every Harrow postcode?

Not always. Regular cleaners are not available in every postcode, whether that is HA1 by the town centre, HA5 in Pinner or HA7 in Stanmore, and the office confirms on the call before anything is booked. Where a regular cleaner is free, the office keeps the same one on your house wherever it can.
